Medical charges for hospitalization

This hospital is subject to a medical diagnosis charge for hospitalization under the “batch payment system” (hereinafter referred to as “DPC”) by each disease as promoted by The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
DPC is a method to calculate a daily fixed amount of medical expenses determined by each classification, based on the “Diagnosis Procedure Combination” which classifies the name of the disease, surgery, description of the treatment, etc.

In addition, DPC is applied to basic hospitalization charges and treatment items such as tests, medications, injections, diagnostic imaging, etc. The exclusive technical fee for doctors, such as for surgery, is calculated by a piece-rate payment system as before. Medical costs for hospitalization are a combination of the flat-rate portion and the piece-rate portion.

After admission, the amount charged may change due to your health condition and medical treatment. Please note that the amount billed for the month at the time of discharge will be adjusted based on the balance from previous month. As result, the amount of payment up to the time of discharge may be higher.

Furthermore, DPC is applied to patients who are hospitalized in the general hospital ward, however it does not apply in some cases depending on the disease or medical treatment. In such case, calculation is carried out by the conventional piece-rate payment system.
